According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the New York Knicks scheduled workout on Wednesday with Dennis Smith Jr. didn’t happen.

This kind of bizarre story could only happen to the Knicks. Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog initially reported that the Knicks met with top point guard prospect Dennis Smith Jr. but it “wasn’t much of a workout.”

It turns out; there wasn’t a workout at all.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the workout between Smith and the Knicks never happened. It’s “unclear” why the 19-year-old didn’t work out for New York.

It’s unlikely that there’s a problem between the two camps. Zagoria also reported that Smith had dinner on Monday night with team president Phil Jackson.

Maybe the Knicks already knew where they stood on Smith and felt like they didn’t need to see him workout.

Smith is one of three guards who are viewed as favorites to be selected by the Knicks their No. 8 pick. The other two are Malik Monk and Frank Ntilikina.

Per Begley, Monk and Ntilikina are both expected to work out for the team. New York is waiting for Ntilikina’s club team to wrap up their season.
