The latest on the beat of the New York Giants concerns how ex-Jet quarterback Geno Smith will fit and whether or not Nick Mangold is next.

Though the rest of the NFL is falling into the lull before the draft, the New York Giants might make some unexpected noise.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports the Giants could be in the process of nabbing yet another player from their New York City neighbors. In addition to Damon Harrison, Brandon Marshall and Geno Smith, former All-Pro center Nick Mangold could be the latest ex-Jet to trade in Gang Green for Big Blue. Though the team is set at the center position with starter Weston Richburg, if Mangold agrees to move to guard, this could be a move worth watching out for.

Meanwhile, ESNY’s Jason Leach explains why he believes the Giants are a perfect fit for quarterback Geno Smith. Playing behind a two-time Super Bowl MVP like Eli Manning will do wonders for Smith’s career trajectory.

ESNY’s captain himself Robby Sabo rubs salt in the wounds of Jets’ fans, highlighting a tweet by Brandon Marshall commenting on NYJ’s newest quarterback Josh McCown. Spoiler Alert: Marshall “loves” this signing. He wishes he was still a Jet. Not.

NJ.com’s James Kratch reports that according to team co-owner Steve Tisch the Giants have a standing offer in place for free agent defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins. Tisch remains optimistic that a deal will ultimately get done.
