Chris Mullin and the St. John’s men’s basketball team will head to Orlando for a mini tournament in 2017.

According to Jon Rothstein of Today’s U, the St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball team will compete in the 2017 AdvoCare Invitational.

This is a tournament formerly known as the Old Spice Classic, or Orlando Classic. It will be held around Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando, Florida. It will consist of eight teams and it is a non-elimination style tournament. So all eight teams will play three games each.

The official bracket, matchups, and dates will be announced in the future.

Along with St. John’s, here are the other participants.

  • West Virginia Mountaineers
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers
  • Missouri Tigers
  • Oregon State Beavers
  • Central Florida Knights
  • Long Beach State 49ers
  • Marist Red Foxes

This tournament in its entirety is carried by the ESPN family of networks.

Last season, Xavier was the winner in this tourney, topping Alabama, Southern Cal, and Dayton. This season, teams like Gonzaga, Florida, Miami, and Seton Hall will participate in this event.

Other than God, sports are my biggest love. My teams are the Mets, Knicks, NY Giants, NY Rangers and St Johns basketball (St. John's alumni). I especially love the Mets like crazy, more than any other team and seeing them win the World Series would be a dream come true and definitely the best sports moment. The Knicks are a close second. I also like to write, so combine that with my passion for sports equals a perfect scenario, I would love to do sports writing long term. If not that, then probably sports broadcasting, cause I love to talk sports as well. In addition to writing for ESNY, I'm also currently writing for Metsmerizedonline.
