January 29, 2017, will be a busy day for St. John’s basketball, both the men’s and women’s programs.

St. John’s Red Storm men’s and women’s basketball teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, January 29, 2017, in this upcoming season at Madison Square Garden.

Not only will they play a doubleheader, but they will play the same opponent: Xavier.

The women’s team will play first at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the men’s at 6 p.m. ET.

Not only did the St. John’s men’s team struggle to a 1-17 record vs. Big East opponents last season, but they lost all four of their conference games at MSG. They did, however, beat former Big East foe and last year’s Final Four team Syracuse at the Garden 84-72 back in December.

St. John’s men’s squad has added some new recruits this season so they should be deeper and better. Beating a solid Big East squad in Xavier could work wonders in helping to restore this program which was once considered one of the best.

On the contrary, St. John’s women’s team came off a successful 23-10 season and got into the NCAA tournament.

Since this is a rare moment for the school, the last Sunday of January should prove to be pretty eventful for the Queens campus.

Other than God, sports are my biggest love. My teams are the Mets, Knicks, NY Giants, NY Rangers and St Johns basketball (St. John's alumni). I especially love the Mets like crazy, more than any other team and seeing them win the World Series would be a dream come true and definitely the best sports moment. The Knicks are a close second. I also like to write, so combine that with my passion for sports equals a perfect scenario, I would love to do sports writing long term. If not that, then probably sports broadcasting, cause I love to talk sports as well. In addition to writing for ESNY, I'm also currently writing for Metsmerizedonline.
