New York Jets’ Ryan Fitzpatrick Shaves Beard; Injury News & Notes

New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is finally ready for the 2016 season, even without his recognizable beard.

Ryan Fitzpatrick endured an offseason of contract poker with the New York Jets front office. After the Jets called his retirement bluff, the veteran quarterback eventually agreed to terms with Gang Green. The 2016 NFL preseason kicks off tonight, and Fitzpatrick’s new look signifies a new year.

That’s right, the once iconic beard sported by the Jet signal caller is just about gone. No, it wasn’t a clean shave, but let’s be honest; he looks like a new man.

While Fitzpatrick will be on the field tonight, the Jets will be without some familiar faces.

Considering Wilkerson ended the 2015 season with a broken leg, it’s somewhat disheartening not to see him on the field for the first preseason game. However, there’s no need to panic until Cincinnati comes to town in week one.

Injuries have riddled Forte throughout his career, but the former pro bowler’s hamstring is more of a cautionary concern tonight. There’s no need to push any star players so early in preseason. Bilal Powell will get the start instead.

Many eyes will be on rookie linebackers Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins. The Jets top two draft picks have a chance to make immediate impacts in 2016, and they’ll have their first chance to turn heads against an improving Jaguars team.

Jets fans will also get their first look at a new left tackle. Ryan Clady will now anchor the left side of the line after D’brickashaw Ferguson’s retirement.

Beard or no beard, it’s time for some football.

The Jets and Jaguars kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
