With Geno Smith out, Mike Maccagnan and the New York Jets have added a little insurance with quarterback Josh Johnson.

The New York Jets have officially added veteran quarterback Josh Jonson, signing him on Thursday night after a workout.
With Geno Smith expected to miss the first four games of the season Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles were apparently still looking to add another veteran guy on top of Matt Flynn.
Via Rich Cimini of ESPN New York:
“We are just kicking the tires around in case somebody else gets hurt,” Bowles said before the team signed Johnson later in the evening. “Just taking a look at quarterbacks.”
Johnson was recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals after losing the No. 2 quarterback job to A.J. McCarron.
With Ryan Fitzpatrick starting and rookie fourth-round draft pick Bryce Petty backing up, it seems it’ll be up to Flynn or Johnson to battle it out for the third and final spot at the position. The only thing the Jets owe Flynn is a $600,000 signing bonus.
New York waived quarterback Jake Heaps to make room for Johnson’s signing.
