Hall of Famer Cris Carter’s ridiculous speech is nothing more then an older guy trying to recapture his days of being young and hip.

Every year at the NFL Rookie Symposium there is a guest speaker that is asked to come in and let the next group of young players know how to avoid losing the opportunities an NFL career can provide for them.
Cris Carter was the guest speaker in 2014 and he felt it was a good idea to let the rookies know they need to prepare to mess up. He made sure to advise them there boys need to figure out who the fall guy will be when they get into trouble. Not exactly the blueprint for avoiding legal trouble and seizing the NFL dream.
Details of Carter’s speech came out this week and it is disturbing:
“I let my homeboys know, y’all want to keep rolling like this, then I need to know who gonna be the fall guy, who’s going to be driving. Y’all not going to all do the right stuff now. So I’ve got to teach you how to get around all this stuff, too. If you’re going to have a crew, one of them fools got to know he going to jail. We’ll get him out. … If you’re going to have a crew, make sure they understand, can’t nothing happen to you. Your name can’t be in lights, under no circumstances. You all understand that?”
Anyone that watches Sunday NFL Countdown on ESPN should know this type of speech is not shocking. Cris Carter plays the hip cool guy role to a tee.
Carter has tweeted a couple apology tweets now that the video has hit the internet, but it all reeks of too little too late:
Seeing that video has made me realize how wrong I was. I was brought there to educate young people and instead I gave them very…

bad advice. Every person should take responsibility for his own actions. I’m sorry and I truly regret what I said that day.” — Cris Carter (@criscarter80) August 24, 2015
Carter gave the speech so he could keep his cool guy persona to all the up and coming rookies, and not sound like he was preaching to them. Most of these players likely walked out thinking how real Carter was and how he understands where they came from.
Time to take a look in the mirror Cris, you may be a good football analyst, but your days of being the coolest guy in the room needs to take a back seat to what you really are.
You are an older man that has been through some rough times in life. Use your experience to help young men avoid these situations. Don’t teach them how to make the same mistakes you made, but get away with it.
