New York Knicks center Willy Hernangomez helped the Spanish national team win a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2017.

All three of the Euro New York Knicks were impressive in their way during EuroBasket 2017. Kristaps Porzingis (Latvia), Mindaugas Kuzminskas (Lithuania), and Willy Hernangomez (Spain) each helped their teams advance to the knockout stage.

Porzingis and Kuzminskas were previously eliminated, but Hernangomez was still active as of Sunday in the third-place game against Russia. After being shockingly blown out by Slovenia in the semi-final round, Spain was successful in their quest for the bronze medal on Sunday.

Hernangomez wasn’t a significant factor over the last two games, playing only a combined 13 minutes. In Spain’s win over Russia, it was the Gasol brothers — Marc and Pau — who put the team on their back.

Spain got a combined 51 points from the Gasols and 16 points from Sergio Rodriguez. Russia got 18 points from former Knick legend Alexey Shved and 10 points from future Brooklyn Net legend Timofey Mozgov.

Before these last two games, Hernangomez was leading the squad in rebounding and looked like a dominant force. This momentum will help him leading into the 2017-18 season.
