New York Yankees: Gary Sanchez’s Suspension Gets Reduced
New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez had his suspension reduced to three games and will begin serving it immediately.
Gary Sanchez originally received a four-game suspension from Major League Baseball for throwing punches in the New York Yankees/Detroit Tigers brawl on Aug. 24. After hearing his appeal, however, they have reduced it by one game.
The Yankees announced on Monday that their 24-year-old catcher has been handed a three-game suspension and will begin serving it on New York’s Labor Day matchup with the Baltimore Orioles.
Sanchez has been on fire for the Bombers as of late, slashing .308/.357/.635 with 11 home runs in his last 30 games. Not having him for the Baltimore series isn’t ideal, as the surging Orioles sit just 1.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the second American League Wild Card spot.

In terms of who will replace Sanchez for the three-game set, manager Joe Girardi confirmed he plans to have backup catcher Austin Romine fill in for all three games. Erik Kratz will also be an option.
