The New York Yankees have been linked to three shortstops who could be used as a fill-in as Didi Gregorius misses time.

According to Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, the New York Yankees have given thought to external possibilities to replace shortstop Didi Gregorius, who will miss six weeks due to a shoulder injury.

Jose Iglesias of the Detroit Tigers, Zack Cozart of the Cincinnati Reds and Nick Ahmed of the Arizona Diamondbacks have been tabbed as potential targets.

General manager Brian Cashman doesn’t necessarily have to go this route, as he has a surplus of internal options he could go to as Gregorius recovers. Starlin Castro, Ronald Torreyes, Tyler Wade, Pete Kozma and Ruben Tejada are evidently in the running for the Opening Day start at short.

Of course, that isn’t ideal and given that Didi may be sidelined until mid-May, the Yankees should consider every option — even those who aren’t at big league camp.

Out of the three names mentioned, perhaps Cozart, 31, is the best option. He won’t come at the cost of top-tier prospects and will hit the free agent at the end of 2017. He hit 16 home runs and 50’s RBI last season while finishing seventh in major league baseball with eight defensive runs saved at shortstop.
