Ice Cube’s Big 3 Shoves Charles Oakley In the Face of Madison Square Garden

The latest full page advertisement from Ice Cube’s Big 3 tournament shoves Charles Oakley right in the face of Madison Square Garden.

There’s no question that Charles Oakley belongs in New York City. The man’s been a fan favorite of New York Knicks fans since he laced ’em up for the team after moving from Chicago (thanks to a Bill Cartwright trade).

His workmanlike and vicious attitude helped protect Patrick Ewing and lead to the rough and tough Pat Riley squads of the 1990s that came just 48 minutes of an NBA championship.

So, Ice Cube’s claim that he’s bringing Oakley back to the city, where he belongs is nothing more than an obvious headline. What’s interesting about the full page advertisement you see above, courtesy of Ian Begley of ESPN New York, is that it was placed in every major city newspaper, directly shoving in the face of Madison Square Garden and the New York Knicks.

Ice Cube, who is promoting his Big 3 tournament set to take place at the Barclays Center on Jun. 25, uses the Oakley photo from when he was dismissed from MSG earlier in the season.

The problem for Mr. Cube and company is that this tournament features over-the-hill NBA bodies who’ll do little competing on this night. Oakley, Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin, Chauncey Billups, Jason Williams? Yeah … I’m not too excited about an event quite like this.
