New York Yankees: Renovations continue at George M. Steinbrenner Field

Pitchers and catchers have reported to camp, but major renovations to the New York Yankees spring training home aren’t quite finished. 

Keep your hard hats on, folks! Major renovations to George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees, will continue throughout camp.

New features include a new main entrance, a new two-story gift shop and the replacement of every seat in the complex. There will also be new lounges, cabanas, suite upgrades, a right-field beachside bar, pavilions and more to promote social gathering spaces.

The project will include work on the club’s minor-league complex.

Renovations began back in June and will cost an estimated $40 million but, despite the original plan, the team does not expect it to be completed by Feb. 24’s spring training opener against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite the construction, however, fans will be granted access starting Wednesday for the first workout of pitchers and catchers — who reported to Tampa on Tuesday.

In addition to hosting the Yankees before the regular season commences, Steinbrenner Field hosts regular season games for the High-A Tampa Yankees.
