Carmelo Anthony, still in search of his next team, is reported to have been informally working out with some players on the Brooklyn Nets.
As the summer drags on, Carmelo Anthony‘s NBA future is still a mystery. However, the Brooklyn born forward is rubbing elbows with members of the Brooklyn Nets according to Ian Begley and Anthony Puccio of SNY.
“Ten-time All-Star and free agent forward Carmelo Anthony has been participating in informal team workouts and scrimmages with Brooklyn Nets players in Los Angeles recently, per SNY sources,” wrote Begley and Puccio.
Although Anthony is still committed to playing next season, the interest level from the Nets is still unknown.
Brooklyn has no room on the roster as it stands. With 15 players signed to guaranteed contracts, general manager Sean Marks would have to let someone on the roster go to make room for Melo.
Anthony is still a free agent and hasn’t played a game since November of 2018. The former superstar fell off after he was traded from the New York Knicks to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Poor defense is one of the culprits for Melo’s demise. Anthony can still score the basketball. The Nets should know that as well as anyone.
Last season, Anthony erupted for 28 points in an eight-point victory for the Houston Rockets in Barclays Center. Anthony was 9-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-9 from three-point range.
The Nets have already made a major splash in free agency. Nearly as soon as free agency began, they had commitments from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. The Nets went from plucky underdog to championship contender in the blink of an eye.
Of course, they’ll have to wait for a healthy Durant to return before there are any serious championship expectations.
