The New York Knicks held a private workout for NBA draft prospect and UNC guard Coby White on Thursday morning.

Duke wing RJ Barrett looks like the likely pick for the New York Knicks at No. 3 overall. However, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Knicks held a private workout for NBA draft prospect and UNC guard Coby White.

The point guard’s stock is rising and he’s expected to go somewhere in the top-10. In his lone season for North Carolina, White averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists on 42.3% shooting. White led the Tar Heels to a 27-6 finish and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the workout, it’s unlikely the Knicks will pass on Barrett when their pick rolls around in the first round. In all likelihood, the Knicks are just doing their due diligence in the event that a trade shakes up the top of the draft.

If the Knicks do choose Barrett, that could be another step towards turning the roster around this summer. Free agency begins on June 30 and New York will have the chance to bring in two max free agents.

The Knicks could sign superstar Kevin Durant, even knowing they wouldn’t see him on the floor until the 2020-2021 season. Durant’s ruptured Achilles will have him out all of next season.

New York could also have the opportunity to sign point guard Kyrie Irving. The superstar was on his way to signing with the Brooklyn Nets, as it was even reported this past weekend that they were close to a done deal. However, reports are now coming out that the deal may not be made after all. The Nets may be having second thoughts about Irving if they can’t get Durant to sign with them as well.
