Despite his comments prior to the season, there are reports that Kyrie Irving’s return to Boston isn’t a foregone conclusion.

The NBA’s rumor mill never sleeps. It’s one of the unique aspects of the league that keeps fans on the edge of their seat. It’s akin to daytime soap operas. Teams have had the summer of 2019 circled for years now and one of the biggest names has always been Kyrie Irving.

This video from October put Celtics fans at ease that Irving would be back in green next season. But despite his preseason declaration, there are reports that state that he isn’t so certain about re-signing per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Haynes writes:

“There’s a growing belief of uncertainty that Kyrie Irving will re-sign with Boston, sources said, even though he vowed to do so at the beginning of the season.”

This report comes amidst the Anthony Davis bombshell and Irving’s situation is being overlooked to a certain extent.

If the Celtics flame out in the playoffs, perhaps Irving will seek out greener pastures. The New York Knicks are an interesting option if he does decide to leave Boston. New York was on his short list when he requested a trade from Cleveland and the Knicks should have enough cap space to pursue the dynamic point guard.

Obviously, it’s too far out to know anything definitively, but Irving would certainly be one of the most coveted free agents on the market. A lot can change before July 1, but Irving’s decision this summer will help define the future of the league.
