Carmelo Anthony is living in exile for the time being, but there are reports that he will land with another team in the near future.

Carmelo Anthony hasn’t played since Nov. 8 and his tenure with the Houston Rockets did not go as planned. Although currently a member of the Rockets, Sam Amick and Joe Vardon of The Athletic are reporting that Anthony has options and will land with another team soon. Amick writes:

“According to two sources with knowledge of Anthony’s situation, the exiled 10-time All-Star who remains on the Houston Rockets roster has multiple options available and is expected to pick one before the Feb. 7 trade deadline. There is no clarity as to whether he would be traded in these scenarios or waived and subsequently signed, but there are strong signs that he will play in the NBA again.”

Anthony’s failed tenure in Houston came down to his defense or lack thereof. He simply does not have the lateral quickness to warrant major minutes on any NBA team let alone a contender.

That being said, if he can buy into his role and play 15-20 minutes as a floor spacer, he can fill a valuable role for a team. Whether or not Anthony is willing to buy into this lesser role is another story entirely.

He seemed to buy into that role in Houston, but that wasn’t the case while he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Furthermore, there was no way he would have even thought about taking a lesser role while he was with the New York Knicks.

As Amick points out, how Anthony lands on a new squad is still uncertain. Nonetheless, the former superstar has options and his career isn’t done quite yet.
