Ron Baker is signing with the Washington Wizards after the New York Knicks waived the guard earlier this season.
It didn’t take long for Ron Baker to land on his feet after the New York Knicks cut the shooting guard earlier this year to clear space to sign Allonzo Trier. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Washington Wizards are signing Baker. They will waive Okaro White to clear the roster spot for the former Knick fan favorite.
Baker put up pedestrian numbers while he was with the Knicks. Across three seasons, Baker averaged 3.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He was never one to fill up the box score.
That being said, Baker was always a solid defender and known as a good guy to have in the locker room. He should be a good fit because he can add some depth to the backcourt and he’s not a player who will upset the apple cart. If anything, he can be a stabilizing presence for the Wizards.
It’s nice to see Baker find a home quickly.
Baker was beloved by many Knicks fans, but he was also vilified by many for the contract that Phil Jackson gave him.
Plenty of fans on Facebook and Twitter didn’t think Baker would be able to sign with another team. Anyone who has spent any amount of time reading through Knicks facebook groups has had to read posts about how Average Joe could beat Baker in a game of 1-on-1.
But alas, Ron Burgandy is heading to Washington to try and save the Wizards.
