Former New York Knicks executive Clarence Gaines called out Mario Hezonja on Twitter and all the Croatian swingman could do was laugh.

Clarence Gaines is an ex-New York Knicks executive and he doesn’t appear to think too highly of Mario Hezonja. Gaines took to Twitter (where he is active and opinionated) to discuss why Hezonja was not heavily involved in the rotation on Saturday against the Boston Celtics.

He tagged Hezonja in the tweet so he was bound to see it and Hezonja could only respond with the crying laughter emoji. This is pretty harmless from both sides. Gaines is free to voice his criticism and Hezonja is free to laugh it off.

While Gaines has a point about Hezonja’s defense being suspect at times, his lack of playing time is a little more complex than that. David Fizdale has been pretty clear that he’s going to ride with the hot hand this year as much as possible.

Damyean Dotson finally found an opportunity and he took advantage of it. It’s unfortunate that his opportunity came after Kevin Knox suffered a gruesome ankle injury, but Dotson took full advantage nonetheless.

It’s likely that Tim Hardaway Jr. will be a fixture in the late game lineups for Fizdale, but after that, it appears like anyone on the roster is capable of playing himself into crunch time minutes. On Friday, Knox played his way into a spot on the floor late. On Saturday night, Dotson did the same thing.

There should be ample opportunities for Hezonja to prove himself as the season progresses.
