All signs point to the summer of 2019 for the New York Knicks and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN believes they are in position to make a splash.

The 2018-19 season will be all about player development for David Fizdale and the New York Knicks. The playoffs will be out of reach for the Knickerbockers, mainly due to Kristaps Porzingis’ absence.

But adding a superstar free agent in 2019 would catapult the Knicks to the top of the Eastern Conference. NBA Insider, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN spoke about the Knicks on his podcast, The Woj Pod, and he feels that the Knicks are in position to secure a major free agent next summer. Wojnarowski said:

“I think the Knicks will get somebody next year. I think the Knicks have put themselves in a position … I think they get a real player, I don’t know which one it is, but I think they are in position to potentially get a guy.”

Wojnarowski is as in tune with the inner-workings of the NBA as anyone around. If he’s saying this, it’s because he really believes it. Of course, there’s always a chance that New York strikes out in free agency, but this statement should make Knicks fans giddy.

But there is much to be excited about regarding this team. Porzingis is a bonafide star, Kevin Knox looks like he could be the real deal, and Mitchell Robinson has tremendous upside.

The Knicks don’t necessarily need to make the playoffs to convince a player like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson to sign. If they can show a positive step forward and KP can show he has no lingering knee issues, this team is only one star away from becoming relevant again.
