Kyrie Irving may not wind up with the New York Knicks in 2019, but there are murmurs that he will at the very least consider New York.

The New York Knicks are gearing up for the 2019 offseason. They’ll have enough money to sign at least one max free agent. They might be able to clear enough space to sign two. Luckily for the Knicks, the 2019 offseason will feature some serious talent—including Kyrie Irving.

Knicks fans should avoid getting there hopes up for Kyrie. A lot can change in a year, but there is a glimmer of hope that Irving may have the Knicks on his wish list.

According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, the Knicks were among the teams Irving wanted to be traded to last summer.

Several executives expect Irving to give the Knicks consideration next summer if he tests free agency, per ESPN’s Ian Begley.

Both of these reports should leave Knicks fans feeling optimistic. Again, a lot can change in a year and Irving to New York is far from reality. But the Knicks have a year to prove to Irving—and other free agents like him—that the organization has turned a corner.

If the youngsters show positive steps forward and Kristaps Porzingis can show that his health isn’t an issue, why wouldn’t a superstar want to come to New York? It’s the Mecca of basketball and the star who finally wins in New York will be worshipped like a God.

The Knicks have a year-long audition to prove their worth. Sure, Irving might be considering New York right now. But how the next 12 months unfold will play a huge role in his decision.
