Oklahoma point guard Trae Young will work out for the New York Knicks ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft. It’s unclear whether or not he will fall to the team at the ninth pick.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, a league source is reporting that Trae Young will travel to Westchester to work out for the New York Knicks.

This is an interesting development for the Knicks who would love to get Young, but it’s unlikely that he slips to Scott Perry and company. But if he does slip, It’s going to be hard for Perry, Steve Mills, and David Fizdale to pass on the Oklahoma one-and-done.

Young has already stated that he would love to play with Kristaps Porzingis. Young and Porzingis could form a deadly pick and roll combo that would thrive in today’s NBA. However unlikely, it’s fun to imagine the two pairing up in Madison Square Garden.

The depth chart is crowded at point guard right now with Frank Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Trey Burke on the roster. The Knicks have publicly stated that they aren’t planning on drafting a point guard but there’s no doubt they could make room for a guy like Young.

Young is a dynamic point guard that can facilitate as well as score in bunches. Although he’s a bit undersized, his talent is unmistakable. ESNY’s own Geoffrey Campbell gives the full scouting report on Young and his realistic take on whether or not he will fall to the Knicks at nine.

Regardless, the organization digging up as much information and getting a long look at every possible draft pick is a positive sign.
