LeBron James and David Fizdale were both with the Miami Heat during their reign atop the Eastern Conference. LeBron has nothing but kind words for the New York Knicks head coach.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, James thinks the Knicks have hired a good coach. “I think he’s a good coach, a good communicator,” James said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “He’s never going to shy away from whatever he feels is right.”
This is high praise coming from LeBron and it shows the kind of respect Fizdale garnered with key players during his time in Miami. Hopefully, he can reach this same level of respect with his players in New York.
So if you’re keeping score at home, Fizdale has received endorsements from LeBron and Pat Riley in the last week. Not too shabby. The coach is often a bridge between the players and the front office. It’s a great sign that Fiz seems to know how to build relationships with both.
I already know what you’re thinking—if LeBron likes Fiz so much, what’s stopping him from coming to New York? Don’t get yourself too worked up. This doesn’t mean that James will be taking his talents to Madison Square Garden anytime soon. In fact, the chances that enticing James to come to New York played any role in David Fizdale’s hiring is almost laughable.
LeBron to New York is always a sexy storyline, but nothing more than that.
