The New York Knicks cut ties with three players in anticipation of their opening game: Trey Burke, Nigel Hayes, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

The NBA season is set to begin, and the New York Knicks are shoring up their roster with some final cuts. Following training camp and the preseason, the organization didn’t make any surprising decisions.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks waived veteran point guard Trey Burke and UDFAs Nigel Hayes and Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

The team was expected to waive Burke and send him to the G-league. Hayes logged just 30 minutes and posted only 6 points and 3 rebounds. Rathan-Mayes was on the court for 25 minutes and only scored 2 points. He was an even more significant long shot than Hayes.

Per Begley, Jarrett Jack will remain on the roster until Joakim Noah returns from his suspension. The point guard rotation is likely shored up with Ramon Sessions as the starter and Frank Ntilikina as the backup.

We haven’t seen much of Frank yet, but he’s reportedly expected to play in the season opener on Thursday against Oklahoma City.

Notes

New York let go of former Pittsburgh Panther Jamel Artis earlier in the month. Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders announced that Artis bounced back with a two-way contract with the Orlando Magic.
