Concerning LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers scoring 49 points in a half, Jeff Van Gundy provides the quote of the year concerning his 1990s New York Knicks.
Non-New York Knicks fans just don’t understand.
Not only do Big Apple basketball fans have to deal with the Knickerbockers stinking up the joint for more than a decade, but they have to endure ABC’s top broadcasting team during the NBA Finals.
All three guys, Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson are New York Knicks. Breen is the play-by-play voice who actually only works MSG games about 50 percent of the time these days. Van Gundy coached the team after Pat Riley, not only acting as Alonzo Mourning‘s leg jockey, but leading the Knicks to the 1999 NBA Finals. And Jackson played point guard in the Big Apple prior to Riley’s teams truly taking off.
Oh, the pain.
During Game 4 of the NBA Finals, JVG provided a splendid nugget of entertainment. After the Cavs set the NBA Finals record of scoring in one quarter, 49 points, Van Gundy executed the quote of the year:
JVG with the basketball quote of the year. About the 48 first quarter points, "My #Knicks teams would've celebrated that for a half.

And it was so true.
During the gladiator times of the NBA, the Knicks and their rivals, the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers, would battle to finish games in the 70s or 80s.
With a couple minutes gone by in the second quarter, the Cavs lead the Golden State Warriors 57-43.
