Oh who, oh who, will the New York Jets take? It’s a guessing game that no scout has gotten any good at, but it’s still a fun game to play.
So while so-called “NFL Experts” dance around with their projections they’re led somewhat astray at least in Gotham. Head coach Todd Bowles has been getting busy with college Pro Days and private workouts left and right.
The most important position in football is the guy throwing the pigskin. While the Jets haven’t had one that’s tickled their skirt this century, they’re hoping that’ll change. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Maybe this is insane, but will the Jets take another passer this year?
In our ESNY feed this week it was reported that NFL QB Prospect Mitch Trubisky will showcase his skills in a private workout with New York Jets. That was, of course, following his Pro Day where he looked “better than Deshaun Watson,” according to analysts (take that for whatever it’s worth).
Although, that wasn’t the only Pro Day that Todd Bowles and company took a visit on. I got a chance to talk to my NFL Scout, Connor Rogers from Bleacher Report this week on one Ohio State product, in particular, Marshon Lattimore.
Could he be the next Dee Milliner? Many fans hope not, but the Jets owed it to themselves to perform the due diligence. This is what ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported over the last 24 hours, that a ton of key Jets executives made an appearance and for good reason at the OSU Pro Day.
“The Buckeyes have two players who could intrigue the Jets with the No. 6 overall pick: cornerback Marshon Lattimore and safety Malik Hooker, both of whom would fill a pressing need. Cornerback Gareon Conley also is projected as a first-rounder, according to Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft.” Via ESPN.com
But the Jets aren’t only adding talent through the draft. The team signed WR Quinton Patton, as reported by the New York Daily News late yesterday afternoon.
“Patton will be reunited with new offensive coordinator John Morton, who was his first position coach in San Francisco. The 26-year-old Patton, who visited the Jets last weekend, had career highs in receptions (37) and receiving yards (408) last season. The 6-0, 204-pound wideout has 73 career catches for 880 yards in four seasons.”
Getting back to the NFL Draft and mock drafts for that matter, none in the business are more respected than that of Mel Kiper Jr. from ESPN. He projects, in his latest mock draft, that the Jets would dare go for OJ Howard with that top selection.
It would give a facelift to the position which is in dire need of an infusion of young talent, OJ fits the bill. While there seems to be an infusion of something else in the lower region of Muhammad Wilkerson‘s waistline.
According to numerous reports, Muhammad Wilkerson one of the Jets brightest stars is looking a little pudgy. Our very own Robby Sabo provided a comical take on why maybe Wilkerson should be focusing on things more important than “reporter gossip in March.”
