Team USA center fielder Adam Jones made an unbelievable snare on what would have been a solo home run by Team Dominican Republic’s third baseman, Manny Machado.
Just call it Oriole on Oriole crime.
In the bottom of the seventh inning of the win-or-go-home World Baseball Classic matchup between Team USA and Team Dominican Republic, Baltimore Orioles’ outfielder Adam Jones made a catch that will be on the highlight reel for ages.
On a screaming line drive destined to reach the seats off the bat of his teammate Manny Machado, Jones drifted back, timed his jump perfectly and made an incredible catch to retire Machado.
He was pumped up, USA reliever Tyler Clippard was pumped up and every baseball fan — including Machado himself — should respect that play with a tip of the cap.
This contest will decide the fourth and final team to reach the championship round in Los Angeles. The Dominican Republic won the first matchup in pool play by dramatically rallying from a 5-0 deficit to advance in the first round. So far, Giancarlo Stanton‘s moonshot and Jone’s improbable snare are leading Team USA’s quest for revenge.
