Thibs: Offensive star?
The 2015-16 Minnesota Timberwolves finished 27th in defensive efficiency, 28th in opponent’s field goal percentage, and 29th in opponent’s effective field goal percentage. They hired defensive guru Tom Thibodeau to fix those woes.
It hasn’t happened yet. Minny is 22nd in efficiency, 24th in effective field goal percentage, and 26th in field goal percentage. They’ve stumbled to a 4-9 record, but the most surprising detail has been their offense.
It’s been good. One of the knocks on Thibs when he was in Chicago was that he couldn’t coach offense. You wouldn’t know it from the results of this team. They’re in the top ten in efficiency, field goal percentage, and effective field goal percentage.
With Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and Zach Lavine, Minnesota boasts three potential twenty points per game scorers who shoot over 40 percent from beyond the arc. All of them are just 21-years-old. Their offense will get even better.
If only they could figure the defense out. Bet you never thought you’d say that about a Thibs team.
