Cubs’ superstar Jake Arrieta placed a bet on his alma mater, and let’s say it will not end pretty for him.

Tattoos are permanent. Perhaps Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs should have taken that into consideration before putting one on the line in a 50/50 bet with a teammate.

A graduate of TCU, he placed a lot of faith in his former team’s ability to reach the College World Series finals with a win over Coastal Carolina.

The 30-year-old was so confident that he put his future skin on the line in a bet with Coastal Carolina graduate and current teammate Tommy La Stella. Unfortunately for Arrieta and TCU, their 7-5 loss Saturday night robbed them of that bid to the promise land.

The Cubs’ ace, having another brilliant season with a 1.74 ERA, has not had many things go wrong for him in the past year and a half. Now, he is going to have something go permanently wrong.

La Stella was on the record saying that the proceedings will be recorded for comic relief if Arrieta goes as far to get the tattoo in in a place that is “visually acceptable”. He jokingly told this to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, who has had a front seat to the entire story.

You can bet that there will be some pressure exerted towards making sure that the next time he toes the rubber, there will be a large Chanticleers logo projecting on his bicep.
