Today we remember the toughness and heart that were the 1990s New York Knicks. Why? Well, because, why not?
On this day, in this specific situation, the question would never be why. Instead, it would be, “Why not?”After witnessing LeBron James lead his Cleveland Cavaliers to NBA history a night ago, basketball fans in the Big Apple have become that much more unsettled.
We fill incredibly unfulfilled.
When will we see our New York Knicks host the Larry O’Brien trophy and finally take home our first NBA Championship since 1973?
“The Decision” didn’t work out our way. As we all know, LeBron took his talents to South Beach. Then, instead of heading our way again, he headed home and in two year’s time turned around a loser into a champ.
Meanwhile, our squad isn’t any closer to a title.
Don’t fret, though. This is why we have history and nostalgia, to remember the better times. To remember times during the 1990s led by names such as Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, and John Starks. Even the later 90s guys like Allan Houston and Larry Johnson are here. Guys who would never allow a dribbler to get to the rack without a bruise in the sternum.
So while you soak in the Cavs celebration, remember there were good times for us once upon a time.
