The saga continues, as WFAN’s Mike Francesa fires back at ESPN Radio New York’s Rick DiPietro for comments made earlier on Tuesday.

There’s nothing quite like a good old fashion ass-whipping.

This phrase and sentiment is one that’s held true for all the years we’ve witnessed sport in this country, and still holds true today.

Mike Francesa understands this. This is why, perhaps, he just laid down the gauntlet.

Listen to the audio above. The WFAN Sports Pope absolutely destroys former New York Isalnders goaltender Rick DiPietro in response to a disparaging comment directed towards Francesa earlier in the day, via Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports.

“Fatso” was the disparaging comment we’re referring to, which occurred earlier in the day on ESPN’s 98.7 FM during the Hahn & Humpty Show.

Of course, the “fatso” remark came way thanks to Francesa calling the Islanders organization “third-rate” last week.

Was it truly an “ass-whipping,” though? Many may back the veteran, almost self-proclaimed “King of NY Sports,” while others favor the new blood in town (Humpty).

Whichever side you prefer, the one common theme among all is that this saga should continue through the Isles-Bolts series.

Game 3 between the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning is slated for 7 PM ET tonight at Barclays Center. It will commence whether Francesa is fat, the Isles are a third-rate organization, or DiPietrio continues to cash those undeserved checks.
