A possible dunk of the year candidate came from the NBA D-League as D.J. Stephens sent one home off a ridiculous lob.
Anybody remember D.J. Stephens from his time at the University of Memphis?
Probably not.
Well, he played for the Tigers from 2009-13, and won Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year as a Senior (’13).
Despite his freakish performance at the NBA Combine, he recorded the highest standing (40 inches) and running (46 inches) vertical leap, Stephens went un-drafted.
.@DdotJAY30 owns the highest vert in @NBADraft Combine history & did this at the #DLeagueDunk Contest! #DLeagueVinehttps://t.co/UfaaCpRUq6

Well he’s bounced around from between multiple D-League stops without anything to brag about. That’s until last night anyway. Currently a member of the Iowa Engery, an affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, Stephens had one of the highlights of his short pro career.
D-League games aren’t exactly known for their defense, and Stephens took advantage of that by throwing down an epic slam:
Stephens thanked teammates, former Kentucky standout Andrew Harrison and James Ennis of LeBron James’ Miami Heat, setting him up with two exceptional passes for the memorable slam.
I appreciate @DrewRoc5 for the behind the back pass… And @JamesDa_Truth for the lob ✊?????

Stephens may never have that memorable NBA moment, but he will always have this one.
