Let’s take a look at the 5 best commercials from Super Bowl 50, because lets be honest–they were more entertaining than the actual game.

By Gregg Cambareri

Forget football, the Super Bowl is all about the commercials. Here are the five best from this past Sunday.

5) Doritos’ “UltraSound”

Doritos commercials are usually one of the more anticipated brands on Super Bowl Sunday. Known for their terrific humor, they didn’t disappoint this year, featuring one of the earliest commercials during the game’s first quarter.

They are also just as humorous on their Twitter account (@Doritos), as evidenced by example A:

Doritos set the tone for what was a clever night of commercials.

4) T-Mobile’s “Drop the Balls”

Pure advertising genius right here. Using Steve Harvey to take a shot at a competitor (Verizon) on the biggest TV day of the year? Brilliant.

The 30 second ad they ran during Super Bowl 50 also has an extended version, which you can view below, and yes, it’s worth the extra 17 seconds.

Humor is great, but so are commercials that catch us completely off guard, like this next ad.

3) Death Wish Coffee’s “Storm’s a Brewin'”

So who saw this coming? Initially, I wasn’t sure if it was a movie trailer, TV series preview, or something else…

And then it turned out to be an ad for Death Wish Coffee. Let’s give credit where it’s due: the dramatic storm at sea, fearless captain and crew, and you were hooked, wondering what on earth this was for, only to see a man finishing his morning Cup o’ Joe.

It certainly got our attention, and a place on our top 5 list.

2) T-Mobile’s “Restricted Bling”

T-Mobile certainly won the day for their commercials. Employing the most popular hip-hop/RB artist in the game, whose hit song just so happens to be about a call on a cell phone was almost too perfect. Drake’s on air personality meshed perfectly with the ad’s goal: belittle other major mobile carriers (probably another jab at Verizon, if you had to guess).

Drake is no stranger to taking shots at his competitors either (we’re talking about you, Meek Mill). T-mobile may have won the day, but they didn’t quite take home our top spot.

1) Kia’s “Big Game”

Anytime a commercial features Christopher Walken going on a philosophical tangent about life, people seem to naturally invest their interest.

The commercial opens with a play on words, “check the walk-in closet,” cleverly designed around Walken’s last name, of course.

Just when the commercial is about to end, we get treated with Walken again, getting right in the face of the man named Richard.

The next time I’m in the car with someone going too slow, I’m going to yell out “Cmon, punch it Richard!”
