According to NFL mainstay Tony Dungy, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning believed the Patriots bugged the visiting locker room.
And no, it has nothing to do with what some refer to as “Patriot Hate.” Rather, it deals with the word around the campfire among NFL circles concerning the devious ways of the organization.
The newest Patriots method of madness talk surrounds one Peyton Manning. Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Thursday.
Dungy claims that Manning believed the Pats actually bugged the visitor’s locker room to gain information prior to the game. He was so paranoid that he routinely held meetings in the hallways.
This story first surfaced all the way back in 2010, via Peter King of Sports Illustrated in 2010 (via Chris Chase of Yahoo Sports). Dungy then confirmed his radio appearance with Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
“I know that that is very true, and, you know, as Peyton talked to guys who played for the Patriots, some of the guys who came over—whether it’s true or not he treated it as true,” Dungy said. “We didn’t have a lot of strategy discussions inside the locker room there.”
While all of this is speculation of course, there’s an overwhelming feeling out there that many truths will now start to slowly creep out of New England. If Manning felt this way by just speaking with former Pats players, who knows what else looms.
