Team USA invested a lot of time in trying to construct the perfect roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics. David Poile, current GM of the Nashville Predators, led a large group of great hockey minds to put together the 2014 USA Roster.
Considering the USA did not even medal in the Sochi Olympics maybe it is time to take a step back and do a little less planning. Team USA seemed to overthink the Olympic size rink and picked players to fit roles, instead of the best talent from the USA.
There is no other way to explain it, when a player like Dustin Byfgulien and Keith Yandle are left home and a player like Brooks Orpik made the cut. How good would Byfgulien have looked on the point of the power play when Team USA lost 1-0 to Canada in the semi-finals? While there is no shame in losing to Canada, coming out flat playing for a Bronze medal and losing 5-0 to Finland is inexcusable.
In 2016 Team USA hockey has a lot to prove and it starts by taking the best players and not just the right players for certain roles.
Let’s take a look at who should make the final 25-man roster for the 2016 Team USA World Cup of Hockey team.
