With news spreading that Captain Marvel will be coming soon, we roll down the female catalog for the top 10 choices to play the lead.

By Kevin Flynn

In just three short summers, Marvel Studios will finally do something that they haven’t done in their conquest of Hollywood up to this point.

What this means is the biggest buzz creating, film-making company on earth will put forth a female super heroine in a stand-alone movie.

By now, we all know that Natasha Romanoff is played by the wickedly talented Scarlett Johansson, but ScarJo has been a bit player in several of the biggest Marvel blockbusters so far.

Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2, reappeared to lure Dr. Bruce Banner to join the Avenger initiative in “The Avengers,” then helped Captain America take down Shield, Hydra and his former best friend, Bucky, in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Currently, the femme fatale of the Avengers is wooing the Hulk with lullabies in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” But the sexy spy cannot seem to land her own self-titled movie. That honor is being saved for Ms. Carol Danvers who will become Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018.

According to Marvel, the character of Carol Danvers grew up in Boston, Massachusetts before joining the air force. After gaining powers from a Kree Warrior, she gains the powers of flight and strength and can shoot energy blasts from her hands.

There’s one catch to this all important history making movie set to drop in three years…… Marvel has not been able to cast her yet. They are looking for the right girl that would stand about 5’11” with blonde hair and blue eyes and has the star power to carry this movie in the box office. I have my favorites and I’m sure the internet world of fan-boys do too.

Here’s my Top 10 choices of mine to play the next female Avenger, Ms. Marvel aka Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers:

10. Stana Katic

The television veteran from Ontario has been seen is TV series like 24 and ER. Miss Katic can currently be seen on the ABC series, Castle. She has a fan following to play the super heroine, but is it big enough to make the Captain Marvel movie a successful one?

9. Rosamund Pike

Coming off of an Oscar nominated performance in “Gone Girl,” she is a female that has some star power and it could only grow if cast as the lead.

8. A.J. Cook

A personal choice of mine. We all love A.J. as J.J. in “Criminal Minds” on CBS. I think she has the look, but she is lacking in the overall star power that some of the others have.

7. Emily Blunt

Miss Krasinski can do it all. She can sing as we have seen in “Into the Woods,” she can be bitchy as she was in “The Devil Wears Prada,” and she can kick ass as she did in “Edge of Tomorrow.” Blonde hair and Blue eyes are all natural here, she can easily get stronger with the trainers in Hollywood and she has definite leading lady material.

6. Taylor Schilling

Her performances on “Orange is the New Black” have put her on the acting map. Being cast as the lead would set fire to the map. She has the look and is an up and comer. Marvel did wonders for the career of Chris Hemsworth when he was cast as Thor, and the same could hold true for Taylor Schilling.

5. Olivia Wilde

Do you believe it was funny man Jason Sudekis that landed her? Me neither. But alas, those piercing blue eyes that we fell in love with on the Fox TV series, “House,’’ as well as movies like “In Time” and “Tron: Legacy” as Quorra means she could carry the physical demands of being an action hero. I would absolutely pay to see her as Carol Danvers.

4. Yvonne Strahovski

The internet darling has all the buzz and Miss Yvonne would bet a great pick to satisfy the public outcry of fan-boyhood. I think she looks the part and ever since playing the love interest on NBC’s “Chuck,” her fans want bigger and better for her. It’s a consensus pick but with this pick unfortunately, the star power is lacking here.

3. Charlize Theron

There is no bigger star on this list than Charlize Theron. The Academy Award winner has the star-power and acting chops to carry this vehicle. She has the height, blonde hair, blue eyes and all the action movie resumes to get cast tomorrow if she wants it. I have only 2 issues: Her age and her role in Hancock. I have not put anyone on this list that has played a Marvel or DC super hero or villain before. But her role in Hancock sours this pick ever so slightly for me. I have two other choices that I would love to see.

2. Natalie Dormer

The new and younger Queen of the realm on Game of Thrones is a budding superstar. Her eyes and her smile have enough sinister behind them to look like they are going to kick your butt if you mess with her. Being cast as Danvers would definitely be a step in the same direction that Miss Dormer’s career path is on.  But there’s one more choice that takes the favorite spot for me to petition Marvel to cast.

1. Alexandria Daddario

Here’s my choice. Naturally blue eyes, gorgeous figure, young enough to carry the torch for a long time to come. Miss Daddario has had her star on the rise for a long time now. She first graced us with her presence in the daytime soap opera, “All My Children.” Her performances in the Percy Jackson movies have had us really take notice. Her jaw-dropping performance in HBO’s “True Detective” meant she is all grown up now. She is set to star in this summer’s natural disaster blockbuster “San Andreas” and in three summers from now, should be on a meteoric rise in fame as Captain Marvel. Make it happen Marvel!!!
