The New York Jets once against enjoyed a touchdown from their starters on offense. The premier defense provided some nice moments to the tune of three sacks on Matt Ryan, and these antics would help fuel a preseason victory.

New York would earn a 22-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night in Atlanta.

Heroics from Sam Darnold and Ty Montgomery highlighted the game’s opening possession. The pair each contributed to the entirety of the Jets’ 66-yard drive, one that was capped off by a one-yard scoring rush from Montgomery.

Darnold previously hooked up with Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa for respective gains of 21 and 15.

Darnold and a good portion of starters played three drives in Atlanta. While they failed to generate the same amount of firepower, the defense made up for a lack of cornerback depth with big pressure on Atlanta’s top unit.

They would earn five sacks on the Falcons’ triumvirate of quarterbacks, including three on Ryan. Jamal Adams, Avery Williamson and Brandon Copeland represented the starters, while Bronson Kaufusi and Anthony Wint got to Matt Schaub.

Depleted in the secondary, the Jets (1-1) did allow Ryan to make some big plays. The Falcons’ starter completed 10-of-14 for 118 yards. Darnold countered with 46 yards on 5-of-passing.

Atlanta (0-3) took a 10-6 lead into the halftime locker room after a four-yard score from Ito Smith in the final minute of the half. The Jets would wind up running away with the game via a 16-0 run in the second half.

After Taylor Bertolet kicked a 49-yard field goal to trim the lead to one, the Jets used two turnovers to their advantage. A Matt Simms fumble recovered and returned by Wint set the Jets up four yards away from the end zone.

Four plays later, Luke Falk found Deontay Burnett for a nine-yard score. The Falcons got the ball back after the two-minute warning, but James Burgess put the game away with a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Not everything was sterling for the Jets. Williamson left the game with a knee injury in the second quarter, while Bertolet missed two more extra points.

The Jets will next play on August 24, as they return home for an exhibition against the New Orleans Saints (7:00 p.m. ET, WCBS).
