Caris LeVert made his long-awaited return to the court on Friday night when the Brooklyn Nets took on the Chicago Bulls.
At one point, Caris LeVert’s season appeared to be over. After suffering a gruesome injury earlier this year, there was little hope that he would return for the Brooklyn Nets this season.
On Friday night, he made his triumphant return to the floor. The partially filled Barclays Center crowd gave LeVert a nice ovation from the crowd and his teammates.
The shooting guard started off the season on fire and was an early candidate for the Most Improved Player award. Head coach Kenny Atkinson is looking to reinsert LeVert into the rotation slowly and hopefully, they can build him up back to major minutes by the playoffs.
Prior to the game, Atkinson spoke about his returning shooting guard and stressed that he wants LeVert to enjoy the moment. His return to form will be an arduous process, but this moment had to feel special for the 24-year-old.
The only unfortunate part of this moment is the fact that LeVert is not returning to a packed house in the Barclays Center. Brooklyn is one of the most exciting stories of the NBA season and they are one of the only New York sports team worth paying to go see. Their Barclays roommates—the New York Islanders—are another great New York story at the moment.
The Nets should draw bigger crowds as the season continues and the playoffs creep closer, but they deserve to be playing in front of a sold-out crowd every night.
