The New York Rangers prospects continued their quest for the Traverse City Prospects Tournament Championship on Monday.
After falling to the Carolina Hurricanes prospects on Saturday night, the New York Rangers looked to get back on track Monday with a game against Detroit.
So far, all reports have pointed to defenseman Brendan Crawley having a real solid tournament. He was rewarded by being bumped up to the first pair with other tournament star Neal Pionk. Up front, the Swedish duo of Malte Stromwall and Robin Kovacs got another look on the top line, this time with first round pick Lias Andersson. Reports show a so-so tournament for these two. Two guys who have a full season of AHL hockey under their belts should be making more of an impact.
Today will be the final game of the Traverse City Tournament and, as of now, the opponent is TBD. It hasn’t been an overly impressive showing for the prospects but a win would be a nice way for the kids to go out.
On Sunday, the Sabres and Rangers met at Citi Field for a friendly photo op and interviews to introduce the Winter Classic. Also, it appears the NHL decided to potentially tease the Rangers logo for the event.
On Monday, Kevin Shattenkirk took part in fielding calls for the Cantor Fitzgerald Charity. Cantor Fitzgerald is a charity founded just shortly after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. It distributes money to families all across the nation who have been victims of terrorist attacks, natural disasters and other emergencies. For someone who grew up in the New York area, this must’ve been an awesome opportunity for Shattenkirk.
