Training camp hasn’t even begun and already, the New York Rangers are dealing with an injury.

According to a report out of the Czech Republic, courtesy of Hockey News’ Alex Nunn, New York Rangers first-round pick Filip Chytil tore a leg muscle while playing in the U20 Four Nations Tournament.

This story was first reported in hokej.idnes.cz, and the translation is a bit rough.

“Because of a fresh muscular injury, he will not be able to show his hockey potential at the New York Rangers New York Camping,” said Aukro Berani general manager Martin Hosták. “Wounded in the Twenties Tournament in Finland. With self-denial, he managed all three matches, but detailed examination in Zlin showed that he brought a torn muscle to his leg.”

“Still, Filip leaves at the beginning of September for a newcomer camp,” Hosták remarked.

So it appears Chytil will still come to New York for training camp. As for the Traverse City tournament set to begin next week, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll play. You can expect the Rangers to proceed cautiously with the teen, whose offensive abilities are impressive.

There’s been no word yet out of Madison Square Garden on Chytil’s status. Stay with ESNY for the latest updates on this still-developing story.
