New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo is hoping to have his superstar wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., back for the team’s Week 1 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, McAdoo told reporters today that Odell Beckham Jr.‘s injured ankle has improved recently and he’s “hopeful” OBJ will be able to play in the team’s regular season opener.

Beckham was diagnosed with a sprained ankle after being forced from the Giants second preseason game against the Browns due to a questionable hit.

The injury looked bad, but the diagnosis was good and he maintained that he was hoping to return for the regular season.

Beckham is one of the best receivers in the game and he makes the Giants’ offense look incredibly different. When he plays, he’s the focal point for opposing defenses.

The Cowboys secondary has more questions than answers this season. They lost a pair of veterans in free agency, as cornerback Morris Claiborne signed with the New York Jets and safety Barry Church headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars. As a result, their secondary has gotten considerably weaker.

In six career games against the Cowboys, Beckham has 31 receptions for 426 yards and five touchdowns. If he’s able to go in Week 1, against that depleted secondary, he could be in line for a huge game.
