New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson needs to focus on football rather than firing back at reporters for certain reports.

Who says professional athletes don’t read the newspaper?

A week ago, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported an interesting tidbit about New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson. Apparently, scouts were shocked to see how “out of shape” the Jets highest-paid defensive player was at Temple’s pro day.

One scout called him “sloppy” while the other was “shocked.”

Well, it’s now evident that if Big Mo ever tells us he doesn’t read the news, he’s absolutely lying.

Through an Instagram story, Big Mo had this to say:

“They say I’m fat and out of shape?” Wilkerson said in a video posted to his Instagram story while running on a treadmill. “Ha-ha. Keep sleeping on me. I’m telling you.”

What we have to say is, “Who the hell cares?”

Nobody cares what Muhammad Wilkerson has to say right now. And quite honestly, nobody cares that scouts are horrified when looking in his direction at a Temple pro day. The only thing we care about is what happens in between the lines on Sundays.

Wilkerson, unfortunately, just played into the “new age” prototypical athlete who always cares about the buzz and always has to fire back via social media. Odell Beckham Jr. comes to mind when thinking about this type. Carmelo Anthony is another guy who comes to mind.

The real diehards don’t care about this nonsense. They’ll digest the news and the information, but won’t let it affect them if the play and citizenship equal the salary.

After last summer’s huge signing, Big Mo has a hefty tag to live up to. That’s all we diehards care about.

Stop worrying about firing back and get to work.
