Following a poor performance in net against the Wild, the New York Islanders have released goalie Jaroslav Halak.
A day after being pulled from the net following a poor performance against the Minnesota Wild, goalie Jaroslav Halak has been waived by the New York Islanders. The team posted the official announcement via TwitterAlthough this may seem like a surprise move to some, the writing has been on the wall for some time now.
In a very unprofessional move, Jaroslav Halak’s agent Allan Walsh took to Twitter back in October to voice his displeasure with the way the Islanders rotated their goalies, something he is not a stranger to.
Halak was in the midst of his third season as a member of the New York Islanders. This season was a bit of a struggle for him as he was 6-8-5, allowing 3.23 goals against for a .904 save percentage, all career lows.
Between his agent’s comments and being outplayed, Halak became expendable.
Halak, 31, is under contract through the 2017-2018 season and is responsible for a $4.5 million cap hit. He has had previous stints with the Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues since being selected in the ninth round back in 2003.
Although Halak has struggled for the Islanders this season, a proven track record along with a strong performance in last year’s World Cup shouldn’t keep him unemployed for long.
