With a win over the (9-4) Detroit Lions on Sunday and some help, the New York Giants can clinch their first playoff berth since winning Super Bowl XLVI.

Getting into the playoffs was an obvious goal for the New York Giants heading into this season after spending $200 million to revamp the defense. The Giants still have an outside chance of catching the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East crown, but this week they can clinch a wildcard.

The teams the Giants would need to lose are all favored to win this week, but stranger things have happened.

Here all the things that need to happen in order for the Giants to clinch a playoff spot if they beat the Lions on Sunday.

  • Green Bay Packers loss or tie to the Chicago Bears on Sunday
  • Minnesota Vikings loss or tie to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday
  • Washing Redskins lose to the Carolina Panthers on Monday night

At the end of last season, Giants CEO and President John Mara said the franchise had lost credibility after missing the playoffs four years in a row. If these scenarios happen, then credibility will be immediately restored.
