A report has recently surfaced linking Mike Maccagnan and the New York Jets to be hot and “all over” North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky.

For the first time during this miserable season, the New York Jets have been seriously linked to a collegiate name.

According to a source close to Manish Mehta of the New York Dialy News, Mike Maccagnan and the Jets are hot for North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky.

“They got their eyes set on the North Carolina quarterback,” one rival scout told the Daily News. “The Jets are all over this kid. All over him. They’ll probably deny it if you ask, but they love that kid. That’s their guy. They’re not going to get him though, because I think that kid is going to get over-drafted.”

As seen in recent drafts, NFL quarterbacks have been the hot commodity. From the legitimacy of Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota going one-two to the possible over-drafting of Adam Goff a season ago, the QB spot is the most important position in all of sports.

The same scout who claims the Jets are “all over” Trubisky believes the QB class will also find their way up the draft board in an unwarranted fashion.

“These guys are going to get over-drafted,” the rival scout said if this year’s quarterback class. “It’s going to happen.”

Obviously, a lot can change until the 2017 NFL Draft, but it seems Woody Johnson and company have their sight set on the gunslinger from NC.

Should Trubisky be Broadway bound, it would mean Maccagnan had drafted a QB in three straight seasons. Bryce Petty, a fourth-rounder from the 2015 crop is now auditioning as the starter to close out 2016. Christian Hackenberg, a second-rounder from last year’s draft, isn’t even close to ready (from all reports).

Serious questions and concerns will be raised if these rumors about the Jets having the hots for Trubisky turn out to be true.
