New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. fined 12K for comments on field

For at least the fifth time this year, the NFL has handed down a fine to star New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Here we go again. The sideshow has surfaced again from Odell Beckham Jr.

This time, the NFL handed down a fine of $12,154 for verbal abuse and excessive profanity towards an official.

It is no secret that OBJ was not pleased with the officiating in the Giants’ 24-14 loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It appeared to start with an early, in his own words via USA Today, “horrible” offensive pass interference all against him in which the official apparently told OBJ to “get out (of) my face.” Although the infraction is hard to pinpoint, OBJ was seen multiple times throughout the game jawing with the officiating crew.

The fine that Beckham received had nothing to do with the comments he made following the game in which he stated that he doesn’t believe that Terry McAulay and his officiating crew should be allowed to cover Giants games in the future.

Later this week, Beckham Jr. added fuel to the fire when he added that some of the missed calls were so obviously missed that “Stevie Wonder can see it”. There have been no reports of Odell Beckham being fined for his off-the-field comments as of yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they wound up adding to his season that has been full of fines.

Although his statement could have been worded better, OBJ did have a point when it came to missing obvious calls. In a day and age where the NFL is supposed to be preaching safety, no call was made on Malcolm Mitchell when he threw a late hit on Giants’ tight end Will Tye on a ball thrown over his head. Missing the call is one thing, but in a week that saw OBJ fined for being mean to officials and hurting their feelings, the league should have at least given Mitchell a fine.
