Despite another costly turnover, Todd Bowles announced Monday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be behind center for the New York Jets in week 13.
Much like the New Yor Jets defenders when Tom Brady was blocking, Todd Bowles isn’t touching the idea of switching quarterbacks for the Monday night matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
“I’m not going to make a decision today, or a rash decision one way or another,” Todd Bowles said, after the Week 12 loss against the New England Patriots, via Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. Bowles, like Fitzpatrick, fumbled on his words and has now named Fitz the starter once again. Apparently, Bowles felt the game tape from Sunday’s game was enough for him to believe that Fitz still gives the Jets the best chance of winning.
Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn’t awful on Sunday, tossing touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa, and putting the Jets in a position to beat the Patriots in two straight meetings for the first time since Brady took over 15 years ago. The defense would give up a late touchdown, and the Jets would find themselves down six with just under two minutes to play.
Much like previous weeks, a timely turnover would doom the Jets at the hands of Fitz, when he didn’t feel the pressure and fumbled the ball away to the Patriots defense. Even with a solid game before it, it begins to become head scratching how Bowles can believe that Fitzpatrick gives the team the best chance to win when he has consistently had backbreaking turnovers in multiple games this season (and let’s not forget Week 17 last season).
One of the main arguments against letting one of the Jets young quarterbacks have their chance as starter is that Bowles will lose control of the veteran presence in the locker room. With the Jets team set to win now, however, a change is coming this off-season, regardless of what transpires these last five weeks.
With the present no longer an option, how many more weeks will Todd Bowles prevent the Jets from answering questions about the future?
