Now that New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker is finished with his second surgery, we update his progress.

It would take a world of positivity to believe that New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker will be back in 2017. The two surgeries which aimed to repair his hip and shoulder are not your routine procedures and screams of major league rehab just to walk correctly, nevermind running and catching.

The Jets snakebitten season saw their second best pass catcher placed on injured reserve in October when he had hip surgery.

Following that, one month later, he had surgery done on his torn rotator cuff. Eric’s wife, Jesse James, was so pleased she shared a photo of Eric on social media from his hospital bed:

Eric has youth on his side at 29 but the nature of the injuries make an early return in 2017 a rushed prognosis. Even Jet head coach Todd Bowles understands the reality of this, via Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press:

“It’s probably too early for that,” Jets head coach Todd Bowles said, “It’ll probably be close.”

Decker can recover well but it remains to be seen how well rehab, which is estimated to be eight months, will bring Decker back in a position that calls on one to stretch for balls and demands explosion in the legs that is powered through the hip which is an area that is harder to gauge it’s progress.

Decker may never be the player he once was but that is a question for another day. For now, Decker is pleased to be whole and healthy.
