New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk wasn’t shy to voice his displeasure with the non-call on Sidney Crosby the other night.
The New York Islanders dropped another tough game to the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday night, losing 4-2 at the Igloo. Johnny Boychuk felt that a blatantly missed interference call was the result of the game winning goal.
Boychuk did not mince words when discussing a missed call on Sidney Crosby just before he scored the game winning goal, via Arthur Staple of Newsday:
“It’s frustrating when you get elbowed in the head and that guy scores the goal, I’m sure if it was reversed, I’d be getting a phone call from the league and a suspension. And their players were asking me, I’m fine, so I guess that’s good. But if it was anyone else, they’d be getting a call from the league.”
Head Coach Jack Capuano also chimed in:
“It was a high hit, no question, The disappointing thing is the official is right next to [Boychuk]. He didn’t even have the puck.”
The double standard is not news. The Penguins and NHL have had the fingers of nearly every other club pointed at them for favoritism, and for good reason. A simple YouTube search of Crosby’s antics will yield numerous results of the NHL’s prince getting away with numerous minors and majors that have gone unpenalized.
