Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets have one last chance to get the 2016 season right: ‘Monday Night Football’ in Arizona.

  • New York Jets (1-4)
  • Arizona Cardinals (2-3)
  • NFL, Week 6, Monday, Oct. 17, 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
  • University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
The New York Jets have one last chance to make 2016 right. This Monday night in Glendale, Todd Bowles, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and the rest of the green and white have one opportunity to take that ugly 1-4 record and make it a little nicer at 2-4.

Unfortunately, it looks as though they won’t catch a break in the injury department.

Carson Palmer, who missed Week 5 due to his inclusion in the league’s concussion protocol, has been cleared to play in Week 6.

The way the Jets 31st pass defense has conducted themselves over the course of the 2016 season may provide very little thought into who the Cards place under center. Drew Stanton may find just as much success.

David Harris, the Jets quarterback on the defensive side of things, will not play. While the 32-year-old shouldn’t be out there in passing situations, his absence will hurt the Jets on first and second down, especially.

However, it should be interesting to see what rookie Darron Lee can do in a more important role on all three downs.

For the most part, Arizona heads into the game relatively healthy. Mike Lupati will most likely miss the game, but the big one, Carson Palmer, turned up on the positive side.

Keys For Jets

Todd Bowles Placing His Players In Position To Succeed

Forget personnel on either team. For the New York Jets to have any chance of coming away with a victory in Glendale on Monday night, second-year head coach Todd Bowles must put his players in a position to succeed.

We’ve been on it since the beginning of the season.

Bowels, for some crazy reason, is stubborn in allowing his personnel to go lighter defensively. He plays a nickel, two linebackers, in situations that calls for a six or seven defensive back look.

Perhaps with David Harris missing the game, Bowles will be forced to go lighter in pass-heavy situations.

The Defensive Line Must Act Beastly

While trying to fit Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Leonard Williams into the same lineup may be a losing proposition, these guys still must find a way to get it done.

This extremely weak pass defense needs these guys to get to Carson Palmer. They’ll need them in more than one way, especially when it comes to stopping David Johnson as well.

Predictions

Until we see Todd Bowles out scheme another head coach in this league, we simply cannot choose the Jets confidently. It has to be witnessed prior to choosing them to win a football game.

Bowles’s strategic issues coupled with the loss of Eric Decker and David Harris make for one tough situation heading into Monday Night Football.
