Chris Mullin, a local Bronx native, has picked up an offer from St. John’s and is looking to be added to their 2018 class.
St. John’s men’s basketball coach Chris Mullin is already looking beyond this coming season as the team is now looking at Bronx native Sidney Wilson to add to their 2018 class.
Wilson is 6’7″, 180 pound small forward, who was originally in the 2017 class. He played at St. Raymond’s high school in the Bronx before transferring to Brewster Academy.
Wilson may be thin but he is an athletic forward who can drive through the lane and finish as well as anyone. He is good on the fast break with his quickness and is a decent ball handler who can step back for a pull-up jumper. Defensively he is a good shot blocker as well with his height and leaping ability.
St. John’s already has a small forward for the 2018 class in Boubacar Diakite from Savior New American school. At least three forwards will come off the scholarship roll, should they finish their eligibility with the school in 2018. They are Bashir Ahmed, Darien Williams, and Amar Alibegovic.
Either way, it is great to see St. John’s go after another local kid. Something they struggled with prior to Chris Mullin’s arrival. Chris Mullin may have had a rough first year coaching wise but he has bee aggressive with recruiting, especially New York City guys, which is huge for a program that was considered the premier basketball college in the city for years with their history and tradition.
